Hillside Amy is a black tortoiseshell. That means she is a black rabbit who doesn't have the black color extending to the ends of the hairs over her body but only on her nose, ears, feet and tail. It's part of the 'E' color gene and requires a double recessive 'ee' before it shows up on the bunny. All her offspring will have one of the recessive 'e' genes although depending on her partner, they may or may not show up as a tortoiseshell or fawn. (Fawn is the agouti version of tortoiseshell.)
Betty is just over a year old at the moment and she is visiting with Aster, our Ruby Eyed White buck. We hope about half the litter to be albino. We don't know if Aster has the recessive for torts & fawns, so if a tortoiseshell baby shows up, we will then know that he does have that recessive. Their litter is due on July 31st, but frequently a first time mum bun will not have the litter. If she does have a litter and successfully raises them, then she will become a 'proven' doe. At the moment we only have three official proven does so we could use another one. We will see how it goes.
