Hillside Black Lotus is one of our three 'proven' does. She is a good mum bun and takes care of her babies. She has nice dense wool, soft and somewhat crimpy. She's a littermate to Black Rose, one of the other three 'proven' females. Which means we have a lot of influence from these two.
Lotus is four years, three months old at the moment so she will be retired from being a mum bun pretty soon. Even though she will be retired from being a mum bun, she will still be busy growing fiber for Hula Bunny yarn.
There's a color gene out there referred to as the 'Vienna' gene. It's the one which results in a blue eyed white rabbit. However, if there's just one Vienna gene (it takes two for a BEW) then the rabbit may have random white hairs or white patches - usually on the face or front feet. Or (OMG! insert a huge gasp here ) white toenails. Fortunately we don't seem to have rabbit shows on this island anymore so Lotus doesn't have to worry about being kicked out of a rabbit show in sheer disgrace.
The Vienna gene is pretty insidious, though, it can hide for for generations since it's a recessive gene. Lotus has her pedigree marked with a VM which stands for 'Vienna Marked. Her sister and littermate, Black Rose, has PVC on her pedigree. That's for Possible Vienna Carrier. Not that there's a whole lot of folks at this moment concerned about a few white hairs or patches or white toenails on a colored bunny, but at some later date, it may be important.
We have a lot of pictures of Black Lotus since she's been with us for a long time and has had a lot of offspring. Here's some of her pictures.
