Fully Owned Net Metered Solar Electric

Green Energy Home
Solar Water & Solar Electric

Hawaii has the highest electric rates in the nation, but don't worry! This home has a huge solar electric system so high electric rates won't affect you.

It is a grid tied system, which means neither batteries nor a back up generator is needed. Until you see the solar panels or see the absurdly low electric bill, you can't tell you're living in a green energy house. Usually, the electric bill is at just the minimum meter charge amount (around $28).

This system has a rare 'Net Energy Metering' (NEM) contract from the electric company. NEM contracts are 100% reimbursement for 100% of the electricity generated. The system gives them one watt of electricity and they give one watt back. They no longer offer these contracts so this is an amazing chance for you to have of these NEM contracts.

Very Classic Hawaii Home

Solid Oak Floors, Clear Redwood Walls
Lots of Natural Light

This home was built in 1972 by a master carpenter for himself, not as a spec house. They not only don't build them like this anymore, they can't since clear knot free boards are almost impossible to find. It is a solid authentic home with great vibes. As the second owners, we have found it to be very comfortable to live in and easy to maintain.

The big picture windows allow lots of natural light as well as ocean views. The louvers below insure the home is well ventilated, which is critical in Hawaii. It is situated where it can access the trade winds coming in off the Pacific Ocean so it maintains a comfortable temperature all year round without the need of A/C or heating.

Newly Painted Back Lanai

Hawaii's weather allows for outdoor living all year long. The spacious back lanai (back deck) is like an extension of the living room. Two sets of steps down into the back yard provides easy access to even more outdoor living space.

Mature Landscaping

There are many fruit trees. The mature ones are the Lehua Avocado, an old style round sweet lemon, a white grapefruit and Chinese Dwarf bananas. The avocados are round, red and extremely tasty. The Chinese Dwarf bananas produce huge amounts of full sized bananas on a short tree.

There are a variety of newer fruit trees which are just beginning to produce fruit. Among them are apples and peaches, all of which are special 'low chill' varieties which will set fruit in Hawaii's climate. There is also a navel orange, citrus grows really well.

Flowers and other decorative plants also grow well. There's a 'Lokelani' rose which is thornless and scented. There is a ponytail palm at the front of the driveway along with an assortment of other palms and ti growing on the property.

Small Town Living at it's Best!

This lovely comfortable Hawaii home is in Honokaa. Honokaa is a quaint and historic small town on the Hamakua Coast on the Island of Hawaii (aka 'The Big Island'). Clean air, ocean breezes, gorgeous scenery and friendly people. We are about fifteen minutes from the larger town of Waimea and about forty five minutes from Hapuna Beach. Which is on the top ten beach list again this year. It's a lovely beach and would be on their list every year except they only allow it to be on there once every ten years.

We are almost equidistant from Hilo and Kona airports, there is also a small airport in Waimea which has the smaller inter-island planes. Waimea is just minutes away and we like flying out of there when possible, since it is much easier than the larger airports. No TSA and free parking.

Honokaa is a complete little town, quite quaint and very friendly. The whole Hamakua Coast is lovely, but we like to think Honokaa is one of the best spots along the coast. There's a grocery store as well as a specialty Filipino grocery and a vegetable shop. There's a weekly Farmer's Market every weekend. Honokaa also has an assortment of mom-n-pop businesses along our little main street. Various restaurants and eateries, assorted boutiques, a lovely hardware store which is now up to Ikeuchi's and grand-daughters although they haven't changed their sign from Ikeuchi & Sons. The post office, hospital, police and fire stations are here, as well as an extension of the University of Hawaii. A park and skate park, a swimming pool, library, assorted temples and churches, elementary and high school, a hospital, etc. Pretty much everything you can expect to find in a well equipped small town, including a pretty nice rodeo arena.

There's several town events throughout the year. Western Week is in the spring, that has the rodeo arena pretty busy with the rodeo and a parade and party in town. Saloon girl contest, chili cookoff and singing cowboys, along with everyone wearing their best cowboy hats and boots - spurs are optional. In the fall is the Peace Parade, which is put on by the Honokaa Hongwanji (Buddhist temple) in conjunction with the United Nations. There's also the Homecoming Parade for Honokaa High School. Each month on First Friday, there's folks in town in the early evening with music and food. Honokaa has enough events to keep things lively without being too busy, it's an emminently comfortable small town.

The home will be listed for $625K and it probably won't last very long once it gets listed on the big real estate sites. Offers will be taken until March 1st, 2022; then a decision will be made to decide who will be the new owners of this lovely home. If you'd like to schedule a showing or want more information such as the exact address so you can drive by, send us an email. Once it gets listed on the big sites, then there will be phone numbers and addresses online.
